Halloween Hangover?

November 2, 2021

Y’all know I go hard on costumes (see below), and Halloween season fills me with delight.

This year, it’s also a time of dramatic juxtaposition.

Over the last week, I’ve created 5 costumes, using 10 feet of hot glue.

My Halloween hangover persists but has nothing to do with alcohol. It’s about the feeling of purpose and playfulness I get during costuming seasons—and the crash that follows.

Halloween night, a friend said it beautifully: “Oh yeah, I get it. Costuming as a coping mechanism.”

Lots of folks I talk with are struggling right now, myself included. Still, we can find joy and delight. We can seek out connection.
